Dear Church Family,

“I love the Lord because He hears my voice and my prayer for mercy.
Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath.”

                                                                                   Psalm 116:1-2 NLT

What a beautiful verse to reflect upon! The beauty and depth of praise begins with “I love the Lord.” This is the personal relationship that God longs to have with each of us, His children, and it is that very relationship that comforts and sustains us through the anxiety and stress of desperate times like these. “I love you, Lord,” is the simplest expression of a grateful love in true and adoring worship.
David tells us why he loves the Lord in the rest of the Psalm:

1. God listens. “Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have Breath!” (Psalm 116:1-2)

2. He Saves. “The Lord protects those of childlike faith; I was facing death, and He saved me.” (Psalm 116:6)

3. He Delivers. “He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling.” (Psalm 116:8)

4. He Sets Free. “O Lord, I am your servant, born into your household; you have freed me from my chains.” (Psalm 116:16)

Psalm 116 is one of the five Psalms Jesus sang with His disciples as they left the Upper Room and walked together into the Garden of Gethsemane. This was the night of His betrayal as He prayed in the Garden before His arrest, trial, agony, and crucifixion. Can you imagine Jesus singing this Psalm knowing that He was about to fulfill it? Jesus accomplished it all, everything mentioned in Psalm 116! (Psalms 113-118; Matthew 26:30; Mark 14:26 and Luke 22:39-46).

Jack Countryman writes in his book God’s Promises Every Day, “Just imagine. . . God not only invites us to pray whenever, wherever and about whatever we want, but He leans over, to get just a little closer, to make sure He doesn’t miss a word of what we have to say.”

Don’t lose hope! Evil could not cancel Jesus almost 2,000 years ago on a hill called Mount Calvary. And, No, Easter is not canceled! This Easter Sunday, in addition to your worship time prayers, would each of you call at least one person from our congregation and give them the Great News that HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED!

Happy Easter! Much Love and Blessings,
Pastor Chuck and Barb
