Charles Spurgeon writes that Psalm 131 “is one of the shortest Psalms to read, but one of the longest to learn.” Even though it is only three verses long, it contains a world of wisdom. This is a “simple, but not simplistic” song, designed to be sung on the road of life. It is a journey of self-discovery, where we come to terms with who we are: prideful, arrogant, and self-absorbed. Yet, it is also a song of grace and acceptance: we discover how to humble ourselves and be invited daily into the journey of surrender, as we calm our hearts, quiet our souls, hope in the Lord, and trust now and always.
Each week you will be invited to engage with Psalm 131 through a video which introduces the week's theme, small group discussion which invites group members to share their experiences and build community while learning, a daily devotional which includes listening to our Psalm 131 soundtrack, a handful of songs based on Psalm 131. Those participating may also engage in a different prayer practice and artistic expression, allowing each individual to express what God is teaching them in their own creative way. The more you engage in these elements, the deeper the impact this study will have on your spiritual growth.
